Welcome!

I’m Corrie, a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner and burgeoning author.

About me…

Corrie Kangas, DNP, BSN, RN is a critical care nurse practitioner living in the northern Midwest. Having spent her twenties pursuing her passion for politics with zero background in the medical field, she pivoted to a career in nursing and hasn’t looked back. Dr. Kangas received her BA and BSN from MidAmerica Nazarene University. She completed her Doctor of Nurse Practice in Acute Care Medicine from Creighton University while maintaining her bedside nursing career. Dr. Kangas spent seven years as a nurse at the bedside, predominantly working in a surgical-trauma intensive care unit prior to becoming a nurse practitioner. Her passion for the critically ill population continues and she currently works as a nurse practitioner at a major academic medical center in one of their intensive care units. Despite her love for the northern tundra, Dr. Kangas enjoys traveling to the beach as often as possible, cheering for her favorite college basketball team, and lingering at brunch with friends.

Have you ever wondered how health care workers manage? What makes them tick?
How do they do it?

I write a weekly SubStack that answers those questions.

But Did You Die? is an intimate look at the clinical practice of a critical care nurse practitioner. With deep insight into healthcare systems after a decade plus of direct patient care, Dr. Kangas will educate you, entertain you, make you think—and maybe make you cry. It’s a thoughtful and engaging conversation around healthcare issues pulled from the headlines. Written for the non-medical person who is fascinated by medical dramas But Did You Die will help you understand medicine from an insider’s perspective.
